From big stages to intimate cabaret, Charné brings over two decades of professional performance and musical direction experience to every student.

Meet Charné Louise

As a working musician, Charné has spent years performing at corporate events, venues, functions, clubs, festivals and live gigs, both as a solo performer and as part of professional bands.

She performed lead vocals and trumpet with Gold Coast party band The Titanix, corporate band Off the Leash, girl group The Diamond Dolls,
and duelling pianist at Howl at the Moon.

In other words, she's spent a lot of time discovering what happens when the set list changes, the monitor isn't behaving, someone calls a song in a different key, a set starts falling from the sky and you still have an audience waiting for a show.

Those experiences are now some of the most valuable things she can pass on to developing performers.

Cabaret, theatre & creating a show

Cabaret has played a huge part in Charné's performance career and helped shape her approach to performance coaching today.

Rather than seeing a performance as simply “singing the song,” Charné works with storytelling, character, humour, audience connection, stagecraft and the little moments that turn a collection of songs into a show.

She created and performed her own one-woman cabaret, How Not to Eat a Banana in Public, which travelled all the way to the Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles.

She has also appeared in original cabaret projects including The Unreal Real Housewives of the Gold Coast at HOTA, alongside a variety of cabaret, theatre and live entertainment projects throughout her career.

That experience now feeds directly into areas of the studio such as performance coaching, solo show development, cabaret creation, repertoire building, stage presence and Creative Music Development.

Then television happened...

Charné's career has also included a couple of slightly less conventional adventures.

In 2012 she became a housemate on Big Brother Australia, entering the house as a Gold Coast singer and cabaret performer.

Apparently living in a house full of strangers with cameras watching 24 hours a day seemed like a perfectly sensible career move at the time.

A couple of years later she headed back to television — this time with a microphone — auditioning for The Voice Australia in 2014, where she reached the Top 100 and performed during the Blind Audition stage.

While television makes for a fun story, Charné's real love has always remained live music and performance — that moment when performer, music and audience all connect.

For Charné, music has never been something that only happens in a lesson room.

It has taken her from piano stools and orchestra pits to cabaret stages, theater productions, live bands, television, recording studios, corporate events, one-woman shows, and some wonderfully unpredictable gigs along the way. Charné brings more than two decades of professional music, performance, and teaching experience to the new Music Studios, creating a place where students of all ages and all skill levels can learn, experiment, build confidence and discover what kind of musician or performer they want to be.

And no — you definitely don't have to want to become a professional musician to belong here.

A lifetime in music

Charné is a singer, pianist and trumpeter with extensive experience across live performance, cabaret, musical theatre, bands, artist development, music education and musical direction.

Her formal music training includes CMus & AMusA in Piano, Grade 8 Trumpet and Grade 6 Music Theory, giving her a strong foundation in musicianship and technique — but much of what she brings to her students has also been learned through years of actually working on stages, in rehearsal rooms, behind microphones and alongside other professional musicians.

Her performance career has included work with the iconic Dracula's Cabaret Restaurant on the Gold Coast, where she was lead female vocalist, musical director and pianist.

She has also performed in cabaret and theatrical productions including Mary Poppins, Avenue Q and We Will Rock You, alongside work with La Scala Cabaret, Boy and Girl, and other numerous live entertainment productions.

Teaching the next generation

Teaching has run alongside Charné's performance career for many years.

She has taught singing, piano and trumpet, working with everyone from complete beginners through to developing young performers and students preparing for exams, auditions, shows and professional opportunities.

Before establishing Charné Louise Music Studio in Kingaroy, Charné taught extensively across the Gold Coast and Brisbane, including operating previous teaching studios that grew to more than 70 students.

Her teaching experience has included both traditional private tuition and contemporary performance development, including AMEB pathways, repertoire development, musicianship and technical training.

But Charné has never believed that music education needs to fit into one little box.

From music student to performer

As Singing Director and mentor with Popstar Kidz and The Greenroom Project Jnr, Charné worked with young performers through everything from vocal warm-ups and technique to harmonies, solo parts, group performance, confidence and stagecraft.

She also taught private singing and piano through the program and worked with students in solo artist and pop-group development, giving young musicians the chance to experience music in a practical, performance-based environment.

That experience remains a major influence on how she teaches today.

Because sometimes a student needs scales.

Sometimes they need music theory.

Sometimes they need to learn how to breathe properly.

And sometimes they need someone to say:

“Right. You've got six songs. Let's turn them into a gig.” Real-world music skills.

One of the biggest differences at Charné Louise Music Studios is the opportunity to explore what happens beyond the traditional lesson.
