Creative Music Development

Creative Music Development is for students who want to do more than just learn songs — it’s about developing your sound, building confidence and learning what it actually takes to get music off the page and onto the stage. These sessions are creative, practical and performance-focused, giving students the chance to explore songwriting, improvisation, arrangement, interpretation, stagecraft and live performance in a way that feels current, personal and relevant. Want to start gigging? Build a killer set list? Get ready for an open mic, audition, school performance, band gig or your first paid show? We can work on gig repertoire, set planning, song choice, performance flow, transitions, stage presence, audience connection and preparing material that actually works live. Students can also learn the behind-the-scenes skills that make live performance run smoothly, including microphone technique, basic live sound, working with a PA, monitors, backing tracks, click tracks, cues and simple studio and recording technology. The aim is to help students understand not just how to perform, but how a live gig or recording session actually works. We can explore how to create a set that feels like you, how to adapt songs to suit your voice or instrument, how to recover when something goes wrong on stage, and how to communicate with musicians, sound technicians and an audience with confidence. Sessions can include: Songwriting, lyrics and melody development Gig repertoire and set-list building Preparing for live performances, gigs and open mics Stage presence, confidence and audience connection Microphone technique and live vocal skills Basic live sound, PA systems and monitors Backing tracks, cues and performance tech Studio basics and recording techniques Song interpretation and creating your own version of a song Improvisation, arrangement and creative experimentation Audition and performance preparation Working with bands, musicians and live sound teams Whether you’re getting ready for your first performance, building a full gig repertoire or starting to develop yourself as an artist, Creative Music Development gives you the space to experiment, make noise, take risks and build real-world music skills. Less “sit down and play the piece.” More “let’s get you stage-ready.” Create it. Rehearse it. Own it. Play it live.
